First US edition, from British leaves, of the poet and novelist's first book. Lolly Willowes followed in 1926, and Mr. Fortune's Maggot in 1927. Her nearly forty year relationship with the poet Valentine Ackland produced a collaboration, Whether a Dove or a Seagull, published in 1933. This book of poems is very playful and includes bum-pinching, and this jolly poem entitled "Epitaphs" Here lies Melissa Mary Thorn / Together with her son, still-born; / Whose loss her husband doth lament. / He has a large estate in Kent. Very good. Item #895
