[8], 320 [i.e. 318] pp. (numbers 318 & 319 not utilized); two page advert not present at conclusion of text. Very early ownership signature and date on title page, a further date on the final page. Pages toned, no foxing noted, else good or better.  

First edition. Sir William Temple Baronet was an English diplomat and essayist whose secretary was Jonathan Swift during the latter part of his life (1689-99). Temple, as a trusted diplomat, negotiated the Triple Alliance of 1668 between England, the Swedish Empire, and the Dutch Republic. Temple presents a general history of England, from what was then known of its earliest known beginnings to the momentous shift in fortune of the island nation in the aftermath of the Great Conquest of 1066. .
