Octavo. xx, 164 pp., with a frontispiece portrait of William Lilly, the 17th-century English astrologer. This is Volume II only of F. Leigh Gardner’s three-volume bibliography of occult literature. Bound in publisher’s blue cloth, gilt title stamped at the upper right of the front board. No dust jacket issued. Light rubbing to extremities; internally clean, very good.
First edition. Volume II comprises a twelve-page historical overview of astrology by William Wynn Westcott (co-founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn) followed by a catalogue of 1,340 bibliographic entries, chiefly describing works on astrology printed between the 15th and 19th centuries. Many entries are annotated with Gardner’s notes and commentary. F. Leigh Gardner, a British occultist affiliated with several esoteric societies including the Golden Dawn, compiled this series to document key strands of occult literature. (Volumes I and III, not present here, treat Rosicrucian and Masonic texts respectively).
