THE TABLES OF THE LAW AND THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI.
London: Elkin Mathews, 1904. First trade edition. 12 mo. Original blue wrappers, printed and decorated in black. [6],7-60,iv pp. Five pages of publisher's advertisements, two leaves that carry on to the verso of lower wrap, edges unopened. Light fraying to yapped edges; a properly deaccessioned institutional duplicate, with the stamps (small circular, on the title page with shelf numbers elsewhere) and a neat library label of the Library of East Anglia: "The Gift of Claude Colleer Abbott," and a pencil noted date of its withdrawal on verso of half-title, else a clean and attractive copy.
First public edition, and an interesting association copy inscribed on the front free end sheet by Edward Thomas to Gordon Bottomley: “To Gordon Bottomley (in hopes of drawing a letter) from Edward Thomas 22. vii. 04.” A charming and early association between two major literary figures, predating Thomas’s poetic turn. An uncommon Yeats title with a rare triple confluence of literary figures: Yeats, Edward Thomas, and Gordon Bottomley. Very good. Item #784
