A revised and expanded version of Wells’s essay first published in The Independent Review (Dec. 1905), this Fabian Society pamphlet critiques the manufactured nature of poverty through the metaphor of ill-fitting boots. Wells argues for land nationalization and economic reform, rejecting utopianism in favor of practical socialism. A transitional work in his political thought, bridging early Fabian activism and later socialist writings. Very good. Item #767
