THE TALE OF THE RAVEN AND THE BLACKBIRD. BY THE AUTHOR OF THE BLACKBIRD'S SONG.
Near Stationers-Hall, London: Printed for R. Barnham, and Sold by J. Morphew, 1715. Octavo. Extracted from a pamphlet volume. 23,[1]pp. The final two leaves are slightly tanned. Very good, sound and complete.
First edition. Published in 1715, the same year as the first major Jacobite rebellion against George I. The pamphlet reflects Whig-aligned sentiment, mocking Jacobite sympathizers through allegorical birds—common in political satire of the era. The use of animals to represent political figures echoes the tradition of Dryden and Swift, though Stacy’s tone is more polemical than literary. Item #749
