SUR LE BORD.
Paris: Fontaine, 1947.
First edition. One of 400 numbered copies printed on vélin pur fil, this being No. 65. Octavo, pages entirely uncut in original glassine tissue wrapper. Folded cover created by Mario Prassinos after a drawing by Max Ernst. A fine copy, seldom seen complete in its original ephemeral wrap (not photographed outside the wrap). A scarce survival.
An elegant example of Waldberg’s postwar surrealist prose, published by Fontaine—the intellectual press founded by Max-Pol Fouchet that helped re-establish France’s literary identity after the Occupation. Waldberg, an early ally of André Breton and contributor to the movement’s revival, infuses this work with the edge and introspection characteristic of late surrealist writing. Fine.
