A near fine copy, in a good dust jacket with some tanning to the spine, dusty rear panel; shallow losses at the spine ends, a small scrape in the spine panel, and two chips from the top edge of the front panel. The front panel flap has its price sticker of $3.00, the August 1928 published price. Laid in is a brief, typed secretarial note - folded once for mailing - with envelope written on Barnes's behalf declining a request for an interview. Also contained in the envelope is a bookplate with the name of the note's recipient that appears to have been removed from a book but not this one.
First edition, limited to three thousand copies. Foreword by Barnes containing information on the novel's expurgation which are noted in the text by way of asterisks. Near fine. Item #735
