Small, tasteful bookplate of the late professor John Cabell Riely, a noted scholar of 18th-century English literature and caricature, especially Horace Walpole, James Boswell, Samuel Johnson, Joshua Reynolds, Henry Bunbury, James Gillray, and Thomas Rowlandson, affixed to front pastedown. Fine, in a just about fine slipcase with a bright paper label, and a matching draw ribbon.
Limited edition, No. 1986 of 2000 copies printed for the members of the Limited Editions Club at the Sign of the Stone Book in Bloomfield, Connecticut. This edition follows the text of the third edition, published in 1786, and reproduces notes made by Hester Thrale Piozzi in the margins of her copy of the second edition. A truly lovely copy. Fine.
