[Original Gelatin Silver Production Still from the film:] SAYONARA.
[Np: Np, c. 1957]. One large borderless gelatin silver print original film still, title in pencil on verso, 14 x 11 in. (36 x 28 cm) of Marlon Brando and Miiko Taka on the set of the film Sayonara, Brando staring intently at Taka while eating with chopsticks, Taka smiling at unseen action away from Brando while rapidly fanning herself. Near fine. Uncommon.
Directed by Josh Logan, Sayonara is based on the 1954 novel published by American author James A. Michener. "Set during the early 1950s, it tells the story of Major Gruver (Marlon Brando), a soldier stationed in Japan, who falls in love with Hana-Ogi (Miiko Taka), a Japanese woman. The novel follows their cross-cultural Japanese romance and illuminates the racism of the post-World War II time period." -- Wikipedia.
