The British surgeon Dr. William Palmer was accused in 1856 of murdering fourteen people by means of poison. A Victorian true crime novel told from the shifting perspectives of those who came into contact with the notorious doctor. His mother's lament at the outcome of his trial for poisoning his friend forms the title for this historical fiction account - a genre at which Graves is an acknowledged master. Item #137
